Artist Statement

How do you make a permanent mark in the world of impermanence? Ever since I was diagnosed with cancer, I always had a feeling of unease and impermanence. This feeling was always present in my life - as a woman, a mother - but the unease hit differently upon the phone call from my doctor. It gave me the desire to find a way to ground something in my life and make an indelible statement.

My drawings are crafted with unwavering permanency, using tools like Pen and Ink, creating spaces of safety. The work comes from a place of searching, trying to understand the spaces we inhabit and explore. The roles we play in life and the places it takes us. I close my eyes and allow the lines to create these worlds that I won't be torn away from, and hope I can create a retreat for others.
